The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It is one of the four major traditional Chinese festivals, along with the Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival.
Originating from the ancient worship of celestial bodies and the worship or reverence of dragons, the Dragon Boat Festival is characterized by various customs and activities, including dragon boat racing, hanging calamus and mugwort, and enjoying traditional foods such as rice dumplings. It is also a day for families to gather together to worship their ancestors, ward off evil spirits and pray for good luck. There are many legends about the Dragon Boat Festival, including commemorating the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, the loyal minister Wu Zixu, and the virtuous Cao E. The festival has cultural and historical significance and has been designated as a national holiday and even included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
